Yesterday she was exploring her musical artistry - quite loudly - when Wonderboy came downstairs looking like this:

A Solution
Miss Fia has a fuchsia recorder that she received from Santa - he must have had a momentary lapse in judgment. I can come up with no other reasonable explanation. Occasionally she is overcome with a powerful need to create 'music', and when this occurs, we do our best not to yell "Stop that racket right this instant, young lady!"
Yesterday she was exploring her musical artistry - quite loudly - when Wonderboy came downstairs looking like this:
I asked what was going on there. He replied, "She's playing her flute. So, well...you know." And I do know.

My American Girl
I'm coming to the conclusion that Chicago pretty much has it all. (Except chiggers, which I'm TOTALLY down with.) And since it apparently has it all, I couldn't resist the chance to plan a girls' birthday celebration at the American Girl store - because I'm such a fantastic daughter, that I gave birth to a little girl ON my mother's birthday - ya, I'm that awesome. So we made our lunch reservations, and sent the boys off to Legoland, and off we went to Michigan Ave.

I'm going to be honest with you and admit that there may have been some coercion involved steering her toward the right doll. I mean, it's your choice Fia, but I'm sure you would prefer this adorable brunette doll with the braids, right? Right. And remember it's your choice. You're choosing this cute doll with braided pony tails, yes? She looks so much like you, I really think you'd love this doll. Is this the doll you choose?
And really, she's just thinking, if I pick a stupid doll, then I can move on to the stuffed animals - cause they're AWESOME. They need to move some of the dolls out of the way and make more room for the stuffed animals.
So we settled on the doll I really wanted her to have, and the basset hound she really wanted to have.

Lunch was quite a ladies-who-lunch sort of thing, with several courses and pink lemonade. Special seats are provided for your doll to sit at the table with you (and...AND, you have the option of 'borrowing' a doll to eat lunch with if you haven't brought your own!! - I totally could have saved myself some dinero, and just bought her the basset hound.)

And then we went to Filene's. The end.

Funny
I sent Wonderboy to time-out today, no warnings, just straight to time-out for shutting off the garage light when his sister was out there and then closing the door to effectively thrust her into outer darkness. It's a particular fear of hers, and he knew it. He shuffled straight to the bench without argument - because he knew he knew it. Are you with me?
Half way through his 8 minute time-out he asks if he's done yet. I say "No way buddy. Eight minutes. Just think, when you're 18 years old, you'll be sitting for 18 minutes. That's awesome."
He replies, "Man, I just wish you guys would rethink your policy on spanking."
