We had to say goodbye to Luna yesterday. At a spry 14 years old, I think we expected she'd keep surprising us a bit longer, and then maybe one day just not wake up. We weren't so fortunate, but I'm thankful our veterinarian was able to care for her so quickly and help with difficult decisions.
Luna was part of our family before our family was more than just E and me. She came to us as Forbes Jessica, a five year old retired racer from Florida, scared of stairs, and terrified of nail clipping. She was perhaps the gentlest, sweetest animal I've ever known. And so quiet, except when she was impersonating Chewbacca, which was just plain weird.
She took retirement seriously, but I like to think her spirit shrugged free of her old body yesterday and now she's running in a vast green meadow, her gangley legs strong again, with all the ear scritches and back rubs she can stand.

I am so sorry for the loss of Luna. She was the sweetest dog I knew. Enjoy your memories.
I don't think I've seen anything more beautiful then Luna running freely, fluid, sleek and beautiful. She was grace and elgance with a gentle soul, qualities we as humans should seek to acquire. I miss her already.
